Vintage 1970 Seiko 5 Sports 6106-8560 Aug 1970 blue dial
A real eye-catcher from the golden era of the Japanese sports watch: This Seiko 5 Sports “Water 70m Proof” (Ref. 6106-8560) from February 1970 combines a deep blue dial, a bright orange second hand and a strong tonneau case to create an irresistibly cool 70s look – and comes complete with the sought-after original stainless steel bracelet .
The blue sports dial: A light blue inner minute track sits atop the rich blue, complemented by applied indices coated with luminous material ( now no longer storing any light), the "SEIKO 5" shield, the signature "Sports / Water 70m Proof / 23 Jewels," and – as an unmistakable highlight – the orange seconds hand. This color combination makes the model one of the most attractive and sought-after vintage Seiko 5 Sports watches today.
Seiko 5 DNA: The name "5" stands for the five core features that made Seiko a global success starting in 1963: automatic movement, day/date display, water resistance, the signature recessed crown at the 4 o'clock position, and a robust case and strap. The "Sports" line was the sporty, water-resistant, diver-oriented version of this concept – designed for active, young wearers.
The movement: It is powered by the reliable Calibre 6106C from Seiko's Suwa manufacture – an automatic movement with 23 jewels, hacking seconds, 21,600 vibrations per hour, and a bilingual day/date display (Kanji/English) with a clever quick-set function via the crown (a light press changes the date, a full press changes the day of the week). The 6106 is among the most robust and durable Seiko automatic movements of its time.
Condition and Service: The watch is in very good, original condition with a vibrant, clear blue dial and sharp case contours. It runs perfectly. It comes with the original Seiko stainless steel bracelet – a rare and valuable bonus for these models, as the original bracelet is often missing.
